As a rapidly emerging spinal device company, Pioneer entered the world of Biologics in 2006 by entering into a distribution agreement with Regeneration® Technologies, Inc. (RTI). RTI manufactures BioSet™ DBM, a demineralized bone matrix (DBM) for use as bone void filler in many types of surgical procedures. Also in 2006, Pioneer announced the acquisition of Encelle, Inc., headquartered in Raleigh, NC with

research and pilot production in Greenville. Encelle is a developer of novel products for tissue regeneration including E-Matrix™, a sterile, injectable biopolymer designed to repair or regenerate diseased or damaged tissue. Encelle is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pioneer Surgical Technology and was renamed Pioneer Surgical Orthobiologics. The company continues operations in its Greenville facility.
